Hypoglycemia is nothing to mess around with! Please be mindful going to a new home can be stressful on these little guys. In same cases causing them not to eat. If that is the case their blood sugar will drop. You will want to keep an eye on them and if you see any changes start by offering them some chicken. Always feed puppy before they go to bed so sugar does not drop and right when they get up.
It is very important to make sure they have access to fresh food and water all the time.
We always keep Nutri-cal on hand especially if we see pup is going down hill. Brings that sugar level back up.
Here is a link on hypoglycemia signs.
If you see low blood sugar signs that are not going away it is urgent that you act IMMEDIATELY. Death can occur in puppy.
After giving nutri-cal and see no signs of improvement in 10 minutes go the vet. Let them know you suspect low blood sugar. While waiting for tests your pup could be in danger and they need to act fast in these little ones especially if they are not used to these little ones.
Playtime
Never leave your puppy unattended it is a accident waiting to happen with the fragile nature of these little guys. Fragile little bones and soft little heads. Something can easily be knocked over on them. Be sure and confine them to a small space and as they grow you can give them more room. I use a x pen and can it easily be adjusted. Others use play pens. A potty pad, food and water dish should fit nicely in their area. This will also help with the potty training process. If puppies are played with for long periods of time they will forget to eat. It is important to only do short intervals they tire easily.
Handling
Fatalities can come from these sweet babies jumping from a couch or bed. Please be very careful when holding your puppy they can wiggle there way right out of your hand in a second! If you have grandchildren make sure they are always sitting on the floor and not walking around with puppies. Fatalities come from broken bones.
